Finding a Red Fox Skeleton
What an exciting week we had at Fairywood!
Heavy rains over the weekend filled up our ephemeral pond and the kids asked for rulers so we could measure the depth of the water.
We went on hikes deeper into the forest where we discovered many natural mysteries, including a nearly complete skeleton! Mandy consulted with her bone expert friend and we learned that the bones belonged to a red fox.
We made pine cone bird feeders, hot glue creations, and colorful paintings at the easel.
On Thursday we made it all the way to one of our favorite spots - The Crocodile tree - a giant oak tree that fell over last year and resembles a crocodile. We climbed all over the trunk, learned to identify the edible Wood Sorrel that was growing around the tree, and made pretend ice cream with the decomposing wood.
